The much anticipated John Lewis advert has landed for Christmas 2019. In this year’s video we are introduced to Edgar the young dragon and a little girl who becomes his friend.
The excitable dragon cannot control his fire breathing and has a habit of scorching all the Christmas festivities in the neighbourhood. The little girl comes up with an imaginative idea to win back his respect with everybody.
We see the dragon lighting up a Christmas pudding by controlling his fiery breath much to the delight of onlookers. All of this is accompanied with the sound of gentle piano chords and strings to warm the heart this festive season.
This is the first Christmas advert from John Lewis since the partnership with Waitrose. Will this commercial reach the same popularity. You decide…

The music in the John Lewis and Partners Christmas 2019 advert is performed by Bastille’s lead singer Dan Smith. As with most John Lewis commercials, the video usually features a cover version of a classic song performed by a British artist. This year’s song is the 1985 power ballad “Can’t Fight This Feeling” by American rock band REO Speedwagon.
Dan Smith has now joined the exclusive John Lewis ad club alongside British singers Ellie Goulding, Tom Odell, Tom Chaplin, and Lily Allen. Last year’s Elton John tribute advert proved one of the most popular John Lewis ads of recent years.
