NHS Organ Donation – Pass It On

This moving TV advert called ‘Pass It On’ by the NHS encourages families to talk about organ donation. The commercial shows a woman pass a balloon to a patient at a hospital window symbolising giving away her heart to someon on the donor list. The ad informs viewers that in 2020, the law is changing to an ‘opt-out’system in England and Scotland. The advert will run until spring 2020 when the law changes.

All adults in England – and Scotland in autumn 2020 – will be listed as an organ donor when they die, unless they have recorded a decision to ‘opt-out’.

However, families will still be given the ‘final say’ over whether their relative’s organs can be taken.

Health officials are urging families to discuss their wishes with each other so that if they die, their decision is not overruled by loved ones.

The music in the advert

Music: The End (Cover) | Artist : Earl Grant

The music in the NHS Organ Donation advert is a song called ‘The End’ recorded in 1958 by American vocalist Earl Grant. The song contains the lyrics “At the end of a rainbow, you’ll find a pot of gold. At the end of a highway, there’s no place you can go”. The version in the advert is a cover of the Earl Grant original. The vocals sounds very similar to the original however we are yet to identify the male singer

The original version can be downloaded from iTunes and Amazon Music.
