Booking.com – The world will wait advert

This new 2020 Booking.com advert shows various famous landmarks around the world set to a piece of classical piano music by Claude Debussy.

The commercial released during the coronavirus lock-down, tells us the year that each landmark was built. The ad titled “The world will wait” includes landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower, the Taj Mahal, Madison Avenue, Brandenburg Gate and even the Odeon of Herodes Atticus (completed in 161 AD).

This advert highlights how disappointing it can be to have that dream holiday cancelled. Many of these once easily accessible landmarks currently stand quiet while restrictions take a devastating hold on the tourist industry. For many folk at the moment, this is the least of their worries. Many of these beautiful places have stood strong through countless wars and troubles over time. They will no doubt be surrounded by the adoring tourists once more as this chapter in human history passes by in the months and years to come.

The music in the advert

Music: Suite bergamasque No. 3 L.75 Clair de lune | Artist : Claude Debussy

The piano music in the 2020 Booking.com advert is taken from the famous Suite bergamasque by French composer Claude Debussy. The suite was first composed by Debussy around 1890, at the age of 28, but was significantly revised just before its publication in 1905. The part that we hear in the advert is the third movement of Suite bergamasque which comes from Verlaine’s poem “Clair de lune” (Moonlight in French).
